What I hope is apparent from my example is that society as a whole is geared towards wasting time. From the moment we enter school we’re in an environment where dragging work out, taking your time and generally being inefficient is the norm.
This could not be more true. I think however that the current generation is more cognizant of this than in the past, and thus you see more 'freelancers' popping up: people are tired of wasting their time, and want to change that. I highly recommend, if you are tired of wasting time because you are forced to, do something about it.
