Why I Use OmniFocus

I have, and continue to try all sorts of new task management programs out there, from the simple Taskpaper to the more complex solutions such as Lotus Notes. Every time, without fail, I come full circle back to OmniFocus. I found myself asking myself what it is about OmniFocus that keeps me coming back, and what it is about OmniFocus that keeps me wanting to try new programs.

The Why

As it turns out the ‘why’ of the question is fairly easy to answer, OmniFocus is transparent when I need it to be, and in my way when I need it to be. That is I can quickly enter in data without much thought or work and at the same time I can have OmniFocus remind me of things very blatantly.

It is the incredible flexibility of the program that I love. It is the fact that OmniFocus is so complex, yet presented so simplistically that I love the program.

Why I Look at Other Programs

If I love OmniFocus so much, then what is it that keeps me looking for other solutions. The answer here is two fold:

  1. I am not a fan of the way the program looks.

  2. I write a productivity blog (kind of my job to test other solutions).

The Point

The point I am trying to make in the post is the same one I always try to present to readers when I talk about new productivity tools: If what you currently have works for you, there maybe no rhyme or reason to switch.
